The customer

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) has its Headquarters in Homebush NSW, Australia.

The challenge

In bushfire season, first communication is crucial and having the facility to replay those instantly and to verify what has been said after is very important in case of disaster.

The solution

A CyberTech Recording solution was installed at the Homebush headquarters comprising of 120 digital recording channels for Alcatel Telephone system to record control room communications and 24 analogue channels for recording Radio communications. NSWRFS had different units on most sites creating problems not only for supporting these unit, but having different standards with each unit. NSWRFS has now decided on standardisation in recording equipment used in all 20 remote fire control stations.

Installation

In October 2006, the CyberTech Recording system was installed with 'Satellites' in 20 separate locations around the North South Wales area. The satellite recorders record and log local telephone and radio communications. Instead of those calls being stored locally on a recorder, those calls are sent to the Homebush head quarters via the WAN and are stored in the central recorder. A call can be accessed and replayed at the local station via the WAN, using a standard web browser.

The term 'satellite' does not refer to a intergalactic recording system but a recording system that has one Core Server and several remote satellite systems linked together in a network

The benefits

The prime objective of choosing the CyberTech Recording system is the standardisation of a national recording system with maximum reliability, large storage capacity and with local representation. Now, not only do they have a single database located at the main site for all recorders, they also have instant access to a recorded call from any one of those sites. The local CyberTech partner ADDCOM has provided the system and maintains both the central server as well as the recorder satellites.
